Official Journal of The Academy of Osseointegration
Editorial: Timely Publication
PMID: 24804280
DOI: 10.11607/prd.2014.3.e
We are happy to report our improved publication time for articles in The International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (IJPRD). Recent changes, such as online-only content and an increase in the number of printed pages per issue, have worked together to greatly expand our ability to publish manuscripts in a more timely fashion. We are also working to achieve online ahead of print and comprehensive e-publication as our standard.
Historically, IJPRD has had an extensive backlog of articles accepted for publication. This has now effectively been addressed with the expansion in the number of articles being published per issue. We are confident that we can continue our high standards of excellence in the review and publication processes and have the current goal of publication within 12 months of submission. However, we are working to continually improve this standard.
We encourage authors to be clear and concise in the presentation of their material. Keeping manuscript text to eight double-spaced pages (excluding the abstract, references, and figure legends) allows us to maximize our print space to publish more articles. The editors-in-chief are available directly via email and telephone to guide authors through the publication process. At the review and editorial levels, we continue to highlight and redline PDF files to assist authors in revising their manuscripts.
We are honored not only to be subscribed to by the international community and published in several languages, but also to continue to receive exemplary research and case reports from around the world. However, it is imperative for those authors writing in English as a second language to utilize English-language professional support. This streamlines the review and revision processes.
The entire library of IJPRD, dating from the first issue in 1981, is available on our dedicated web site (www.quintpub.com/journals/prd), with articles available as easy-to-navigate PDF files. All current subscribers receive complete access to the entire IJPRD online library on our website, as well as issues from 2013 to present on the iPad (see more about that on page 430). For each new issue, we are highlighting a “feature” article on our web site. We can also be found on Facebook at www. facebook.com/ijprd.
We are proud of our history and excited about the future of IJPRD. We celebrated a successful 11th International Symposium on Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (ISPRD) last June and are planning the 12th ISPRD to begin June 16, 2016. We hope IJPRD will continue to be a key resource for you and your colleagues. We encourage you to utilize IJPRD and ISPRD for your study clubs and study groups. And for those who submit manuscripts, we will do our best to speed the process toward publication.
Thank you for your loyal support.
